    Not really. I see them all the time in shops here. They are just kept in their "import" configuration.

    I don't know if I would call it grandstanding but its definitely an indicator that you are armed and will put up a fight. There are those who are desperate enough to take their chances. But if someone is trying to enter your house undetected the last thing the want is to know you know they are there, you're armed, and willing to fight.

    If you rack the gun:
    * They know you are armed
    * They know your position
    It also knows you are aware of their presence. I don't think they would just blow it off like your some not that just likes to sit around playing with a shotgun for no reason.

    If you Yell
    * They know you are armed
    * They know your position
    * They know you are aware of their presence
    * They know police are on the way
    This alone might scare them away too but they might take chance on that you are lying. This coupled with affirmation that you are indeed armed would go far.

    Like I said, I posted it for the comedy factor. The rest of the article is just a good read on the impact of shotguns.

    apparently they need something like the bullet button or other thing that keeps the magazine from being able to be disengaged with just your finger.

    Not with the monte carlo stock you don't.

    The "bullet button" restriction is for weapons that have features listed under Cali PC 12276.1:

    http://www.calguns.net/a_california_arak.htm

    If you keep the weapon stock, you are free to use ten round mags.

    I was going by this, at around page 82 of the PDF.
    http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/awguide.pdf

    Shotguns
    (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:
    (A) A folding or telescoping stock.
    (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or
    vertical handgrip.
    (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
    (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
    If that has changed, then great.

    Ok so their is at the very least a few work around of the law so the next question is would it be better to have a semi auto shot gun with 10 rounds or a pump gun? I wonder if anyone makes a 10 round mag. You may not get that nice imitating racking sound but the damn thing looks mean. Neighbors seeing you taking it in to your house may think twice about disturbing you.

    Would this be classified as a SBR, AOW, or a DD?

    This distinguished gentleman is an AOW and only requires a $5 tax stamp to transfer (well, that and a shitload of paperwork):

    Only $700 too.

    From what I understand you are allowed one "evil" feature. Hence, Ar's with pistol grips require a fixed magazine. AR's with removable magazines require some goofy ass stock to remove the pistol grip.

    Saiga semi automatic shotguns are for sale in California, and are owned by it's citizens with no modifications. Give me seven hundred dollars and I can buy one less than two miles from this computer. (Pending background check and ten day waiting period... ;) )

    No "work around" necessary. Just leave the gun they way you bought it and don;t buy a drum. You would have to "work" at it to make the thing illegal.

    As for mag vs. tube? It's much faster to swap a box magazine than it is to reload a tube magazine.

    That's why modern rifles use detachable box magazines, instead of tube magazines like the old "Winchester repeater".
