The Remington 870 pump shotgun. Good enough to be the #1 preferred police carry shotgun in the U.S., good enough for you.

Ironically, this is probably the shotgun your police officer friend was issued by his department.

Once they are broken in, few pump shotguns are smoother, more affordable or more dependable.

I use a Remingtion 870 "tactical" 12 guage shotgun. 18" open bore barrel, 6 shot tube, standard stock, surefire G2 light, and a bandoleiro with 23 extra rounds of various types. My first round in the chamber is a 3" turkey load with No. 4 shot, followed by 6 rounds of No.4 buckshot. I keep 6 slugs on the bando with some birdshot and extra buckshot.

My Wife has a Stevens break over 20 guage with a 19" barrel. It is her first round firearm with her rifle as a backup. I run my Glock 21sf as my backup(like I am actually going to run out of ammunition) just in case I have a malfunction.

Go automatic! Saiga Intimidator! 20 rounds! Perfect for home defense when the Zombie Apocolypes starts!

Seriously, just stick with the Rmington. I, however, still want an Intimidator.

Why not go all out and get an AA12? Zombies will run away from your brains.

I will admit that, a Tromix Saiga 12 is very tempting. It is just to expensive for my taste.

No offense but this is bs. If I decide to announce my presence, "hey ************, I have a shotgun and the cops are on the way!" will do just fine.

Regardless of how valid the claim is, one should never rely on an attacker's reaction to stimulus. “Bad guys run away from shotgun sounds” is just as dangerous as “I'll shoot the bad guy's eyes with birdshot.” Number 4 buckshot (minimum for a shotgun), or a reputable JHP (for a handgun), to the chest—preferably more than once—is what matters.

As Morgan Freeman said in Nurse Betty, “Two in the head, you know they're dead.”

Eh..I'm not sure I want to give my position and choice of armament away to a potential lethal threat by racking a slide. If it comes to the point that I'm using deadly force (with a shotgun) the last thing I want to do is give it a nice, clean, loud RACK that tells them where I'm at and what kind of weapon I have.

^^^^^^^^^ Typical American psycho. If a burglar breaks into your house he's looking to steal your **** and escaped unnoticed. He's not looking to shoot it out with the homeowner. Don't bother buying the gun. Just get the gun oil and liberally sprinkle it around the house. The fiend will smell it and look elsewhere.
