how much better would it have been if they weren't carrying knives?

Shocking absolutely shocking. Glasgow has a fearsome reputation for carriage and use of knives - as this illustrates but it's the sheer criminality that also seems to drive it.
The only lesson to draw is that irrespective of your MA skills, defences against a knife (or, worse, 2) is only ever theoretical in a training environment. Sadly, the best defence of running away seems to have been denied.
Hope he soon recovers and that the scumbags are jailed. -

I hope he gets to see them before they get jailed.
I'm still hoping to see arms ripped off and scumbag-shaped holes in the earth from harai goshi."The hero and the coward both feel the same thing, but the hero projects his fear onto his opponent while the coward runs. Could someone help me out and tell me what redundant means in this context?
This is pretty bad, but he obviously did enough to keep his wife and himself from being killed. Hopefully they will fully recover and the theives will get found. It didn't mention in the story if they escaped with their stolen goods either. -
