The main point was cultural preservation it morphed into SD vs Culturalism and effectiveness. Self defense is the Strawman people bring in whenever cultural preservation or "larping" appears. So far, no one has said this is useful in a street fight in the 21st century.
I thought the point was that regardless of how effective it was as a style, it was dying out because of its disuse (most likely due to its ineffectiveness in todays self defense scenerios) hence the need for an organization such as the OP. Wasn't really arguing that the broadsword was ineffective or worthless, was mainly arguing that the person I quoted's reply to his quote didn't really make sense as an argument.
