For example: Using an arm, your tib or fib and pushing loose flesh against it, much as you would use a stick to push against to increase a lock on the fingers, or as something to push skin against... very small amounts of skin though, not pounds!
Generally when Koshi is done right it should be based on the same leverage anthing else would be. Otherwise if it does not kick in you are comprimised. Hint: the way most people think about these techniques is not the way they are supposed to be done,,, when done properly the pain is so great that one can puke, pass out, ect. Otherwise how will they work when adrenaline is involved? Also they are done in areas with lotsa nerves to increase pain.
Even with this attention to detail one should use them as part of a strategy and not rely upon them. The worse one I ever had done to me was by Dale Seigo years back. It was a sacrifice type throw from (Koto Ryu) a double grab to the throat. He grabbed the underside of the tricepts and I swore my skin was ripped away. He did it in the spirit of constructive inquiry BTW and I was glad to understand 'Koshi" even if it was in front of a bunch of Guardian Angels laughing as I flapped around like a carp on deck. This thread never was a high quality conversation - My friend vern Gilbert on the William Acquier thread.
