    Another great review

Bullshido has the best movie reviews on the internet. Seriously. I agree with every review I've ever read on this site.

No. Not even close to Unforgiven. Good movie though.

I think people's opinions of "Unforgiven" really differ if they've only seen it on television, as opposed to seeing it on a movie screen.

Quite possibly. I was obviously eleven years old when the movie came to theatres, and at that time much more concerned with... Hmm... The New Adventures of He-Man.:eusa_clap

On TV, it reminded me a bit of the usual made-for-TV Westerns.

But, hey, I'll tell you something: I'll watch it again this month. This thread has renewed my interest, and I like normally Eastwood's movies.

I am neglecting my studies and watching "High Noon". Darn, that is one of the best movies I ever watched. Possibly, a new favorite.

    Agreed.
The stark brazen behaviour of pretty much every character in Unforgiven makes it stand as a character study moreso than a Western.

    Spoiler:
Clint Eastwood's character, a former gunfighter who tries to go straight, leaves his two kids alone chasing after money, thinking he is being a good father.

Morgan Freeman's character, leaving his wife alone out of misguided sense of duty and loyalty to Eastwood is the focal point for the inherent and overt racism in the old west, often having a "what am I doing here" look.

The Kid, who talks a good game but is really a scared kid inside.

English Bob who is nothing more than a drunken blustering coward.

Little Bill who is the law but is nothing more than an evil sadist.

Realist gunfights that have more misses then hits and conversations going on between the principals.

Needing to carry on despite getting sick and a gunfighter who can't see....

It really did capture a realism not often seen in films.

The story actually could have been done in a different Genre. Grizzled cop on his last case. A former Criminal hunting down a true criminal.

The Western aspect was just a backdrop.

It's also Eastwood's sheer brilliance and the way he sorts of relates to the old characters he used to do.
Not unlike the way 'Changeling' and to a lesser extent Gran-Torino relate to Dirty Harry. He really is a superb movie-maker.

    Exactly.
You can tell the genre is close to his heart as he really cut his teeth on it with Rawhide and the Leone' films.

It had a greater impact as the genre was ignored for so long, save stuff like Lonesome Dove and Silverado and Dances With Wolves...and his own Pale Rider.

The characters could have been placed in a different genre, but it wouldn't have had as stark an impact.
