I'm in for this but someone will have to put me up for the night as Kent's a fooking long drive for me for a roll with some sweaty nutrider. :-)

Ideally who ever puts me up should be female and hot for old soldiers.

I can normally make these things, though I'm not quite sure what is going to happen next year, as I'll have finally submitted my PhD by next February. So, either I'll be stressing madly about the viva, or feeling smug and prepared. I'm guessing the former is more likely. :icon_wink

    Hi,

Is there any minimum skill/training level needed in order to attend these TD's? Is there a possibility I could end up going against some ones whos been training for 1000 years and get KTFO?

There is no minimum level: it isn't a competition, just a chance to meet up and spar with a bunch of people from various styles (though the last few I've been to tend to be heavy on BJJ). I've rolled with both absolute beginners and black belts at throwdowns.

You can go at whatever level you and your partner agree to, whether that is hard or light. If you'd like to get an idea of what tends to happen, I've got a bunch of write-ups with pictures and videos here.

Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty much a newbie with respects to MA, and have never done any kind of grappling based training, would that be a problem? I read in your article that you said most of the people showing up are BJJ players. I don't want to commit to anything just yet, but I am definitly interesting in attending a TD in the near future.

No problem at all: while there have been mainly BJJers at the last few, there have also been people with no grappling experience whatsoever. I for one am always happy to go through a few basics with people who haven't grappled before, so you have something to try when rolling.

Depends on who is organising it, but at the ones I have been to or organised myself, it was a matter of just turning up on the day, then sharing the cost of mat fees with whoever was there.

Of course, it is nice to know who is going to be along in advance: normally, lots of people post in a thread like this saying "yep, I'll be there, see you on the mats," then don't show up. If people paid in advance that might be less common, but then you'd have to get definite confirmation on the numbers in order to split the cost properly.
