    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Gi pull ups

so i just started these and im hoping my grip strength will greatly improve along with the other muscles,
however obviously this exercise is pretty intense on your hands.

do any of you guys know if and how much this exercise may contribute to get athritis of the hands etc?

No more than any other type of grip training.

    Now HTFU.

pull ups with a thicker bar, thick enough so you cant close your hands around it is a much better grip exercise.

Can you explain what a gi pullup is for those of us that don't know everything in the world?

    This?

Why put the wear and tear on your gi?

you're better off using towels.. but they work your grip better than any other type of chin up in my experience.

Personally however I'd rather do normal pull ups and train grip seperately using Captains of Crush

    +1 on the towels.

I like the use of ropes in the first min. here:

Seems to mimic gi work really well.

yeah sorry jspeedy's video is what im reffereing to, i like using the gi because of the various grips on the lapels and sleeves so you have a range of thickness to play with.
also my gi has shrunk loads so i dont mind the strecth or wear because i will be getting a new one soon.
im going to look into captains of crush too
