what do they mean when they say "roughnecks"

I'm curious because where I live that's a pretty specific piece of slang
There's no choice but to confront you, to engage you, to erase you. I've gone to great lengths to expand my threshold of pain. I will use my mistakes against you. There's no other choice.

I couldn't figure out what else to call them because they're not exactly "thugs" (they are for a little while), and "hoodlums" sounds too silly. They are young-ish men with no real skills, ambition, or direction in life. Thus, roughnecks.

I couldn't even get through this movie, it was fucking terrible. I've lived in and seen some pretty bad **** over here and I have often felt despair about the **** I've been involved in but this movie was fucking ridiculous and as said before, Australia is a fucking lucky country in that we can get out of the "houso's" (Housing Commission). Gangs do not operate like that over here at all, ever. The closest thing would be the bikie brawls which rarely happen, as in ultra rarely. Gangs don't go round fighting each other, it's bad for business and anyone that needs to prove their territorial domination uses guns or bombs.

This movie was horrible. I saw it a few years ago and it's
extremely corny even for late 80's early 90's cannon level
american B movies. I would liken it to a soccer hooligan
movie that wants to be a mafia film. There is no real direction
from what I remember and it's just basically about gang
territory and racial tension between the italian immigrants
of australia (LOL) and the locals I guess. The box would
leave you to believe it was about maori gangsters but it
all centers around some douchebag with tight fitting black
T shirt and jeans who somehow knows how to kick box
kind of and his dumb ass friends.

    rating 2.5/5

Sidenote: If you want to see a good aussie picture I would
suggest a movie called "Chopper" starring Eric Banna and there
is also a great film about the maori people from new zealand
called "Once were warriors" that is very good.

wow, you'd give this thing 2.5/5? That's generous, I was giving it a one, maybe even dipping into the negatives because of the "so bad it's hilarious" territory.

And that would be yolngu boy which is a far better movie.
But then from my opinion everything is a better movie.

Look you can get street stories from poor abandoned comunities every where. animal kingdom for example explores the seedy side of criminal australia. But does it better.
Samson and delila my do it as well but I havent seen it
