How do you think you would have done?

I think I would have done well. I think I would focus on a strategy of roundhouse kicks and head slaps.

Add a few shrilled Kiai in there and you would totally dominate.

I donít yell when I hit things anymore, but I used to be pretty good at it. Iíll bet I still could if I felt like adding some zazz to my sparring.

are there any actual benefits from kiyaping? sorry for slightly hijacking this thread (hey! we're still talking about taekwondo afterall!) but I have long been suspicious about the combat advantages of screaming your lungs out brings...

There was a pretty good discussion of it not long ago:

Tell your friend to stick to judo.

There's a reason many of us migrated from TKD/HKD/TSD.

Glad you had a good time. Looks like your friend acquitted himself well in the short time available.

I was being facetious (I think I spelled that right).....screaming your guts out does nothing. It's commonly used by one, who is point sparring, to draw the judges attention in an attempt to gain points.

His judo coach also teaches a karate class, and he was one of the judges there. Cool guy.
