We've got 'that guy' who tries to take over the class and then never quite seems to take part in randori.

We also have 'that guy' who, although having no fucking clue how to hold pads, insists on holding them for everyone and then complains when they don't hit hard enough.

The worst 'that guy' I ever met was a 14 year old kid at a karate seminar/free training, an open door week at the training centra of my university. The kid decided he was the right man for the job, with his white belt with two stripes, to start correcting me on how things were supposed to be done. How my technique was all wrong and all that.

I think most people got this situation before. A Black Belt in Karate comes in to my judo class WEARING HIS BLACK BELT and thinks its okay to randori with us when he didn't even know how to break fall. Unfortunately, our teachers thought it wasn't a good idea for him to randori with us and told him to get a white belt and join the beginner class ( we have an advanced and beginner class ).

Another time, in BJJ some kid thought it was cool to wear his TKD gi and his black belt to class. Jesus christ. Whats up with those kinds of people? Do they really think their black belt in a shitty art makes them bad asses.

I don't think anyone would dare to be "that guy" at the dojo out here. Nodoby wants to anger shihan, and nothing escapes his notice. Everyone's well-behaved, pretty much. I'm happy with that!

There's a relatively new student at my bjj school. He's trained some striking before and believes very firmly that this makes him an authority on all things related to fighting, including grappling. Most recently, he was making the case that Cro Cop is the most well rounded mma fighter of all time.

Another guy very effectively embodies the antithesis of "STFU and train." He very actively avoids rolling with people his own size and tends to be more concerned with generating the illusion of training hard than actually training hard. He treads loudly and carries a small stick, one might say.

That guy at our judo club is one of the people that just don't get it. He doesn't know when he is being disrespectful. He doesn't know when he is being dangerous. When the class is working on one specific technique, he is doing something slightly different. He's often doing something gross with a finger and a place to put it. He take a bottle of water without throwing his 50 cents in the tin. He just doesn't get it.

One instructor's day job is teaching autistic children and she says that they have a better understanding of what is appropriate and what is not. Quite frankly she hate's his guts. Were it her club, he'd be persona non grata.

We can't tell if he really has some mental disfunction or simply doesn't care. Is he a dork or a d-bag?
