Probably been brought up before but I think that Hughes went for the payday with BJ.

Look at the facts.

3:1 odds.
UFC is notorious for not paying their fighters well.
Hughes left his neck wide open.
His intro song was "country boy can survive."

And a countryboy could survive pretty damned well if he had someone to front $500k and split the winnings 50/50.

3:1 odds. 500k would turn into 1.5 million. The contributor would walk away with 750k as would Hughes.

I don't know it's true, but it's a damned good hypothesis.

I'm not so sure. Yes, you're right he did stand to gain a lot... I think he's always been a bit vulnerable to submissions... and I guess he wasn't really honest about being choked out by newton in their first match up (he's very clearly heard saying to team militech, 'I was out' after the bout).

But at least that does show he's submittable... so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, and lets not take anything away from BJ, I don't think hughes had faced a submission fighter as good as BJ before. Lets see what happens in the rematch if and when it happens.

I think he just got a little cocky.

He is normally a pretty respectful guy but in his prefight interview was by far the most arrogant he has ever come across.

Hallman would loose im a rematch IMO. all but one of hughes losses came by submission. BJ is a world BJJ champion. probably the most skilled that mat has seen.
