    Judo now with musical kata

    YouTube - Judo - Oper 020.AVI

If I didn't know any better I'd think this is supposed to be some sort of surrealist performance art inspired by one too many acid trips, but then I realized it's just Germans being German.

I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

How great is it that Judo has both badass technique, fighters and training methods, AND katas with subtle and spiritual undertones?

You heathens go back dissing Ki-Aikido and leave judo alone!

Judo in all its forms: as an artistic display, as combat, when standing and as a "moving image" is the starting point for the JudoOpera, conceived by the composer and judoka Mark Lingk. Four judoka, equipped with hidden microphones, perform on a judo mat, which is also covered with radio microphones. Two live musicians and a Japanese referee accompany and lead the action. Two sound artists generate the sounds of a struggle; the movement creates the music.
