Boxing trainer Albert Syben, who also is a police officer in the Belgian city of Liege, said the suspect was from Chechnya and trained at his boxing club,DPA reported.

"He is Chechen. He has trained at the club for about five years. I have not seen him for eight months," Syben was quoted as telling BT.

Syben said he also knew the man's girlfriend, who said she had not seen him for a week.

The suspect was arrested in Orstedsparken Friday, shortly after the explosion in a toilet at Hotel Jorgensen. Bomb disposal experts summoned to the park removed a suspected suicide belt fastened to his body.

He has refused to cooperate with police or reveal his identity. According to police, he is aged between 25 and 35, speaks fluent French, English and German. His right leg is amputated below the knee.

Svend Foldager at the Danish police expressed interest in BT's report, but wondered if the suspect was from Chechnya, citing his fluent French.

The Danish secret service PET has not ruled out that the blast may have occurred accidently during preparations for a terrorist attack.

On Tuesday, police released photos of the suspect and distributed them via Europol asking for information. Additionally, the suspect's DNA profile has been circulated.

The suspect was to be in custody until October 4, pending further legal action.

Danish police on Monday said the suspect had apparently removed the identification number from the prosthetic leg he had been wearing.

(belga/sam)
My remark is: the suspect boxed for 5 years in a club in LiŤge/Belgium. He stopped 8 months ago and yet it's a 'Belgium Boxer Terrorist'...
