    Schools in Beaumont, TX ?

    Hey,

Not sure if this belongs in this forum, but I have a friend who lives in Beaumont, TX who is looking to start martial arts. He has zero experience and asked me for advice on where to start.

Is anyone around that area that can provide a recommendation? I'd like to avoid any Bullshido or McDojo. From my quick search online, all I found was:

    Armentor's United Martial Arts
    Daigle's Martial Arts
    Blue Diamond Karate
    Young Dragons Karate Academy
    Family Connection Tae Kwon DO
    Black Dragon Karate School
    Beaumont Taekwondo Academy
    Fred A Simon's Institute-Tae
    Ancient Martial Arts

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Holyshit!Talk about a your dead ends. Are there no MMA or even wrestlinmg schools outside of town? Also,do any of these schools have websites? It's much easier to get a better impression by looking at the instructors bio's and photo gallery.

I am not sure if it is still around, but my uncle trained BJJ in Beaumont from Hawk Hardy a few years back.

Hawk Hardy is still around.. TPC is the name of that academy and those guys bring home trophies. They train Royce Gracie's system of BJJ and MMA as well. They're generally known for teaching and practicing their art very aggressively.

Another option, if you're interesting in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, is the academy that I used to train at - Gracie Barra Beaumont. The instructor there's name is Patrick Head (Google him - He won Pan-Ams in 2008 - I think) and he usually gives a free month of training to new students. This academy also produces top notch fighters - one of their students is Jordan Morgan who is an up-and-coming MMA star who fights at Rage in the Cage. Good, strong "family" environment, and they focus more on highly technical moves and less on bullying methods. On and off, they offer MMA, wrestling, and boxing, and have a strong children's program too. I paid around $100/mo for unlimited training and mat access. No additional charge for other classes either.
