Upcoming Chen vs. MT fights in China

Apparently there are some "challenge" matches going down between 5 MT fighters and some of the younger coaches at the Chenjiagou Taijiquan Xuexiao. The fights will be in Jiaozuo on 9/28, with another round of bouts in '14.

    Ruleset will be K1.

I'm happy to see this, but I do hope the Chen guys are training properly for this kind of venue.

I'm curious to the Chen guys' striking prowess.

I do know that Chen ZiQiang (the head instructor there, eldest son of Chen Xiaoxing) has been training a sanda team for some time in hopes of branching out competitively.

Definitely lots of interest in the Chen community right now about this, and I know I'm hoping for video...

Chen guys are doomed. Chen works best as standing grappling/dirty boxing, and the grappling bit is out the window in K1. And of course any MT fighter has the advantage of training within a significant international sport with thousands of fights to view and dozens of top-flight coaches.

The Chen guys have...a bit of sanda they've been exploring in recent years, and sanda isn't necessarily the best platform for Chen techniques either. The Chens will be dusted, but there's always a puncher's chance, I suppose.

PS: Assuming a fair fight instead of a work, that is.

I sincerely hope not. Under sanda rules it would be interesting, under K-1 rules... unfortunate.

Funny bit; there's some talk of this tournament on the Chen Facebook page. You can tell who knows what Chen fighting looks like and who doesn't based on how enthusiastic they are about the Chen Villagers's chances.

Full disclosure: I'm one of the moderators there.

I'm also leaving the house in 10 minutes to go check out a BJJ school for my son. FWIW.
