    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Have you ever used BJJ in the street?

Ran into this forum with lots of people who disagree with BJJ being effective on the street

I was looking up victorious deadly street confrontation stories that were put out thanks to BJJ.
I'm a BJJ blue belt. I agree sport / street BJJ has a slight difference but I'm always hearing people who were saved on the streets with grappling / BJJ training.

    Many times. RNCs, mostly.

BUT I have used judo and wrestling much, much more. Belly-to-back suplex, kosoto gake, a seoi variation, kata guruma, and an armbar, off the top of my head... All used in the street. I could recall each instance vividly.

    * To a degree, your movement on the ground are somewhat limited by the clothes you're wearing. While this is also true for most arts, the stand-up arts are somewhat less restricted by the clothes you wear.

    * Tables, chairs, bottles in bars and clubs. Those things can bolster the proportion of luck factor in the outcome of a ground fight. You may accidentally hit a table or a chair while trying to perform a lock on the ground. It's easier to avoid these things on stand-up arts.

    * Lamp posts, garbage bins, uneven ground, wet ground, concrete, dog poo, parked cars. These things can also bolster the proportion of luck factor in the outcome of a ground fight. It's easier to avoid these things in stand-up arts.

In my opinion, on a mat, the outcome of a BJJ match depends on 99% skill and 1% luck. In the street, for BJJ, the luck factor is bolstered so much that it's probably 50% skill, 50% luck.
That's right people. **** the lava, BJJ could be 'fatal' on the street as you might get dog poo on your gucci shirt. Yep.
    Dum spiro, spero.
    Tada gan iarracht.

That's why all the best street BJJ guys wear Ed Hardy. Then it doesn't matter if you get **** on your shirt.

Some might even consider such a shirt pre-shitted for your convenience.

No but I've used wrestling once, quite literally, in the street. It wasn't very effective.

I was crossing the street with some of friends from the gym after we finished training and one of them was like "uh oh, lights about to turn green."

I was all "pssh this is Cambridge -- where pedestrians can be gigantic douchebags and get away with it. I proceeded to do a couple of sprawls to taunt the oncoming cars...but once the light changed, I pussied out and bolted for the sidewalk.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Dammit your right.

But I rolling guillotined a guy into mount once and it was really cool. And I just needed to post that.

Then five bouncers jumped on me and I still had him in a neck crank so I had to jump into a headstand to prevent killing the guy. And was then pinned in that position.

So I wound up looking like that goose who gets caught in the awkward spot.
