    Hell yeah! Hell no!

First part of a Judo Black Belt Test

Yesterday I was bsing with a judoka/bbj'er, the captain of our whale watching tour boat, about martial arts (while we went out for hours ocean watching in vain 'til another boat called him that humpbacks had been spotted five minutes from the harbor!). He said that the dojo in Hilo had had an interesting twist to their black belt test. The brown belts came in and were told to line up, in their street clothes before putting on their gis, for a street self-defense test. They had no idea what was going to happen.

One of the instructors then walked up behind them, pulled out a fake pistol and held it to one of the brown belt's head and said, "Give me your wallet." The guy carefully pulled out his wallet and handed it over his shoulder, with out turning to look at the assailant. The instructor told them that that was the was the correct response, that this was judo, a martial art sport, it would have been wrong and dangerous to fight against a gun, now go put your gi's on.

I'd bet a lot that in most Kajukenbo schools they go for the gun. Some train gun defense as part of every class. And in other self-defense type schools, the RBSD's, Krav, Systema and so on, I'd bet a lot of them would take it as a challenge.

    Great story, badass instructor.

Granted, there are scenarios where you might need to do something different. Still, I like that he teaches them a proper way to think.

The correct response is a back flip followed by a flying triangle, obviously. At least among us BJJ Ninjers.

Do you put anything in it to make it look like your main wallet? I've heard of people carrying a money clip in addition to their wallet, but never a full dummy wallet.
