Kind of sad day

So, about 9 months ago, my daughter and I started taking Danzan Ryu together. The thing is, we moved to Texas a few years ago, and I had stopped training when we moved. I had been training in BJJ.

After buying a house and settling in, I decided to start training again. I went to a local BJJ gym. After about a month of training, my daughter told me that she wanted to train with me. I was very excited about that.

The BJJ place that I was going to didn't have a kids program, so I shopped around. I found the Danzan Ryu school, and my daughter and I took some free classes. She fell in love with it, so I signed us both up. We've been training there ever since. She recently got her yellow and I got my blue. It was a nice experience, as I got to tie her yellow on for her.

Now all of her school friends (she's 6, first grade) are doing cheer leading. So, she wants to do cheer leading. As I told her, I can only afford one sport for each kid. So, I told her to stick it out for a while and see if she changes her mind. She didn't. She wants to do cheer leading.

So, I just talked with the Sensei. He's going to let me replace my daughter with my 4 year old son. So, he and I will be training at the same place. That's kind of cool, but I'm going to miss the connection between my daughter and me.

Anyway, I guess that I'm a sap. But, I was a little sad about all this and my little girl growing up too quickly and stuff. So, I posted this. That's all.

I feel your pain.

My oldest daughter has all but quit judo due to school/sports and the dreaded POM squad. Martial arts are something we had in common for about a decade. Good father/daughter time.

I hate POM.

Still, she's not running around getting into trouble. Enjoy the time with your son.

1st grade cheerleading costs that much money?

The ukemi she's learned by now should go a long way....lots of injuries in cheerleading, especially later on when they start throwing each other around.

Cheerleading is actually a lot more dangerous than Martial Arts.

Pfft I did not give my daughter the choice. Actually cheerleading is much more competitive in Texas. That being said she can always go back when it is a bit more productive for her. I am not a huge fan of Danzan Ryu so I am glad cheerleading won out. (Want to guess what I did in high school?)

I have no idea what you did in high school. I wrestled and ran track. But, that was so long ago that it is no longer relevant.

Your disdain for Danzan Ryu has little to do with the point of this thread.
