    Indian MMA: Super Fight League

Apparently, the first professional mixed martial arts show in India is going to be hosted in Mumbai on the 11th:

A few recognizable names on the first card. Professor X, Jimmy Ambriz, and of course James Thompson and Bob Sapp. Expect Thompson to pound out a disinterested Sapp in less than a minute (If Sapp pulls off a victory, though, I anticipate he'll get a wave of popularity similar to what he experienced in Japan). There are also a few Indian guys with no professional experience fighting. It'll be interesting to see what they have to offer.

On top of this, Todd Duffee, Paul Kelly, and Trevor Prangley have also signed with the promotion:

I recommend that everyone keep on the watch for any articles on the event from Indian news sources. Whenever MMA breaks into a new country, the clueless media is always good for a few laughs. So far, from what I've read, coverage has been mostly positive.

This is especially true in India sometimes.

    MMA vs WWE

Before WWE became the farce that it is, there was WWF. For those who miss WWF, MMA is the answer to their prayers. How can a WWF fan not love watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship - it's like the WWF on steroids. The basic difference is that MMA is 'sport' whereas WWE is 'entertainment'.

For a casual onlooker, there's little difference between the two. But MMA is real whereas WWE is staged and scripted. MMA fighters are like warriors, not show puppets.

Injuries can end careers in MMA but not in WWE. If you're not 100 per cent fit, you can't fight but you could pretend to fight if you are a WWE wrestler.

MMA rules allow only one-on-one fights but WWE can throw six fighters in the ring.

I was wondering why UFC Tonight polls on FuelTv kept picking India as one of the places to host an event. I had no ideal India had a growing MMA scene thanks for the info.

Yes to the Indian style wrestlers, probably not to the other traditional Indian martial arts I've seen, except maybe for an occasional fancy kick.

No, India isn't some third world...um, let me rephrase that, India is actually very modern. They have access to the internet and everything.

The Indian fighters in the event all seem to come from BJJ and Muay Thai backgrounds. I imagine we'll see some Pehlwani eventually.
