    body armor

i'd like to find out more about civilian CA-legal body armors.

Since there's an ice cube's chance in hell to obtain a CCW Permit in my town (I'm just relieved that our city allows full contact martial arts training...JK), I usually carry a "discreet" blade, either a folder or a fixed. In case of civil unrest or when the cops are out looking for felons, perhaps donning on body armor makes sense after 'lock-and-loading" the self-defense weapons?

When I use to pickup my wife in a known troubled area in Richmond, years ago, I'd practice some 'civil disobedience' and brought my gun bag with a pistol loaded, but I now days I never do that as I want to stay clear of any liabilities in criminal or civil courts.

Might be neat to do some road work wearing body armor, under the sweat shirt, as long as the armor's affordable (<$300) and will not obviously "print."

Body armor fits the engineer's mantra very well with slight modification. Cheap, bulky, effective. Pick two.

Picked up a level 3a vest in Nevada a few years ago at a gun show. IIRC it was around your price range but not sure if it would print a little bit. You don't want to go lower than 3a, do you?

You got IIIA for under $300? Is that new or used? I suppose it's one of the really bulky ones?

Are you trying to prepare for the Apocalypse or something? You are buying up self defence shotguns when you already own shotguns. You are buying body armor just for doing road work. Just seems a little sketchy to me. Unless you live in Iraq.

I enjoy shooting and, occasionally, hunting.

The Mossberg 500's a fine HD gun, but the 18" bbl's not allowed for skeet, and the 28' bbl with its crude/heavy trigger's not so good for skeet & trap.
The Browning s'auto's 16 ga'...hard to find steel (CA legal over water) shot skeet ammo and the 28" bbl's not so good for.

Body armor = just being curious

I wish I had enough money to buy half the stuff you are looking into! Maybe my wife needs to come off some cash!
