    Fred Ettish on video

    History Of MMA: Fred Ettish

My hat is off to Fred. He stepped up at short notice in UFC 4 (and as most know, got creamed), he continued to train, ref and promote martial arts, and at age 53 got back in the octagon. And he's made a brave honest video.

Fred Ettish is a cool dude from everything I have heard. Anyone that judges him from that one fight many years ago is very shortsighted and an ass.

He stepped up boldly a long time ago, failed in the most public way, but stuck to martial arts at the same time as he made sure to learn from his mistakes rather than steep himself in excuses and rationalisations, which would be a very human (though unfortunate) thing to do; and he stepped up bravely again. And won, at 53. Even regarded purely as a fighter the man deserves plenty of respect. And I can't think of any better measure of a man than what he makes of his mistakes.

Fred Ettish has taken himself from serving as a representation of the failings of so-called traditional karate training, to serving as a representation of astounding growth and character that the vast majority of us lack.

That's pretty cool, and an inspiration for old dudes I guess. Good budo spirit!

Yea I was guilty of mocking him with my friends when watching his first mma fight. I eat my words with a side of blue cheese.

Props to "The Voice" Michael Schiavello and Joe Rogan for letting people know about the real Fred Ettish a while back.
