    Nogi whitebelt bad idea?

    So, I'm doing a no gi class once a week, (1.5hrs)
    Doing a gi class twice a week, (3hrs)

    I remember someone saying once (Jnp?) that they wouldn't recommend a whitebelt doing no gi because there's a greater chance for sloppy fundamentals or something to that effect (paraphrasing and I'm not even sure it was jnp).

    I'm more or less doing it because more training is more training and my coach doesn't mind. Just wanted other peoples' opinions on the matter. And if I'm training gi twice a week will this negate the sloppy basics or something?

    Maybe this will get through, I'm having trouble posting.

    100xobm, I definitely never said that. I have said in the past that if you want to be a well rounded grappler, you need to train both. Also that it's typically better to concentrate on grappling with the gi for the first two years, but that's more a suggestion than a rule.

    Syphilis and PSB are correct.

    I teach no gi to my new students but it is done in our Vale-Tudo classes where striking is involved. We don't really have a no-gi class that is for free style grappling only. Training without a gi is fine. It is when they are only training no-gi is when I think it becomes a problem.

    On a side note I don't promote anyone if they don't participate in the Vale-Tudo or boxing classes.
