    countering the teep

How do you most effectively counter the teep? A training partner of mine has developed a really good, stiff teep, and it's awesome. For the most part, I try to manage my distances where I'm either too far away or too close for it to land, but I have not developed any good counters for it, other than the occasional (and very hard to time) san shou style catch and sweep.

    Any ideas?

BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer.

    Wrong forum I think.

I'm no expert, but I think the standard defence is to scoop it out of the way... nevertheless, this is very basic stuff, and your first port of call should always be your coach for this kind of thing.

Example? I suppose I could have put this in the "basic" forum, but I don't want a basic answer.

You can't grab the leg for a takedown under lots of kickboxing association's rules.

In San Shou I usually either try for scoop and lift or charge into them and try to knock them down with my shoulder whilst they're on one leg. If I was lighter and more agile, I'd try to get out of the way.

Yeah, I could work in some more evasive footwork. It's just such a great kick, and very under-utilized in some rulesets.

    1. Moved your thread. This is not an advanced question.
    2. Outside scoop, kick out leg, or scissor trip (forgot Chinese name for this).

We would focus on parring it from the outside, so that they can't just step down into a punch the way they could off a parry from the inside. You'd also step to the outside at the same time.

I'm gonna drill that some today. I'm used to pivoting or stepping to the outside from being a lefty in boxing.

Scoop and kick is legal in almost all rules as long as you don't hang on to the foot. Remember to scoop it so that you are kicking at their blind side.
