    Paul Varelans' best performance

    • It's nothing spectacular, but Varelans actually displayed some evidence of training in striking. Too bad this was towards the end of his career. It was in the same event where he lost to Nick Nutter.

      On a related note, I now appreciate Varelans for having always worn a shirt during his UFC run. He was lighter here than he was when he was fighting in the UFC.

    Who matched this fight? What were the conditions that allowed a 100lb, 8 inch mismatch?

    It was 1998 in Brazil and it was a vale tudo fight. The concept of properly matched and regulated MMA was still a couple of year away.
