    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    wearable spy cameras.

My boss is looking in to getting those clip on spy cameras for our security staff at one of the clubs we work. The problem is that is as much as anybody knows about those sort of cameras.
    So.
Does anybody use these and what are they like?

    Where can I get them?

Are there any recomended/non recomended brands?

Got to also say we really dont want to be paying heaps of money for them as we will be buying them ourselves.

    I have to say this..

If you can't get this basic information about these items from a professional source, I'm left wondering about your credibility or motive.

Seriously.. Google is your friend otherwise open the phone book and seek out a professional

I am not trying to achieve anything suspect. I am just trying to find out from people who use these things what the best way to set them up is or reliable brands to use so then I can take that infomation and google.

It dosent even have to be a super secret spy thing just discreet. We are trying to avoid complaints and false charges against security guards.

You understand that video alone (without audio) can be just as unhelpful as it can be helpful.

The problem with video and CCTV is that it doesn't explain 'situation' or 'circumstance' however what it will always do is show EXACTLY the physical aspects.

If you've ever watched CCTV footage of an innocent person defending themselves by throwing the first punch because, the dialogue beforehand has left that person in no doubt that, that course of action was justified, then you'll understand why video and CCTV et al isn't always a really good idea.

I nearly fell foul of that a few years back when at work and confronted by a drunk colleague whilst I was on guard, the guy approaching me was very verbally aggressive yet his demeanour on CCTV footage didn't convey that at all, indeed the angle of the camera capturing the footage didn't provide the best view when I challenged him to step back, - it actually looked like I was the one doing the threatening.

Luckily my raised voice brought the guard commander out, and it got settled very quickly but had that incident gone into physical confrontation it would have looked like I initiated it.

Also.. just from a legality point of view.

People you video unwittingly and without their consent could challenge that policy unless they are made aware beforehand their use of the club is tantamount to giving their permission to be filmed.

That information would need to be very visible and well publicised.

The club has fixed cameras and signage so I should be right unless I confront somone down the street (which I souldnt do anyway) or in a tiolet.

I am hoping to get a wearable camera with audio. But My knowledge fo such things is next to nothing.

I can look into it for you, I'm actually installing a network of security cameras this weekend at a bus depot and I have connections with the main wholesalers of security systems, electrical and electronics. ****, I can hook you up with pen and button cameras but I'd be listening closely to what SDLR said above. If anything you should be requesting more fixed visible cameras as they are more of a deterrent than a camera on your person will be effective in a courtroom.

What price range are you looking at?

Some things to keep in mind before you spend a lot of money:

    1.) Legalities.

2.) Don't be so sure having video evidence of an incident is going to protect you. That **** can go both ways in court. Not everyone sees things the same way, and hearsay/consistent stories from coworkers can often save your ass, whereas video is nobody's friend.

3.) I have some experience with wearable hidden cameras. It is quite a bit harder to get them to film what you'd like them to film than you might initially imagine. Doubly so if you can't see the image until after. Triply so if you don't want it to be real obvious you're wearing a camera. You could try going for some sort of head mounted rig, but that sort of limits you to those really cheesy and obvious spy glasses, unless you want to spend a lot of money for something custom.
