5'10 short? Acoording to UFC it is!!!
The national average height 5'10/5'11, which is on the tall side of average in the world, and average in regards to white/black Americans, is like a midgit, when I look at the fighters of EVEN the middle, and Welter weight division. What gives?
In the UFC middle weight division the average is 6'1.
Why is that? Is it because height is such an advantage like in Basket ball?
In fact it seems like all pro athletes are super tall.
The height average is taller for pro athletes than average everyday America.
Is this a case of Heightism? Which I do believe in, because your average CEO
elitist is at least 6'3.
Don't believe me? Go to any industrial center of any big city.
Why are pro athletes so damn tall?
I have never sen a Middle weight in the UFC who was 5'6, but they are not uncommon in everyday life.
5'10 is certainly not tall for a guy, and height does help you in almost all physical activities. So it's not surprising most Pro's are taller, and since fighters are professional athletes....
Also, a 5'6 guy is pretty uncommon, and whats your deal with CEO's?
All CEO's are elitist? Heightism?
I'm 5'7 and I understand that its not any kind of conspiracy that keeps me from being a CEO or the UFC Middleweight champion.
Way back in the day, the tallest australopithecines were the ones who survived the predators, and got to mate and pass on their DNA. Blame the tall grasses of the savanna.
**** all you people, I'm 5'10 1/2 !!!! :icon_evil

but i have seen a trend for fighters to start getting bigger, especially in the heavyweight div.
Remember when cro-cop, fedor and big nog were considered big guys at 230-something
and now you have Rogers, Carwin, Lesnar weight at 265.
I'm 5'9" exactly. I don't feel short at all.
Well you sort of answered your own question, its because fighters dont want to be in a weightclass where they will be giving up a big reach advantage.
Being 5´7 and fighting someone thats 6´2 is absolute hell unless the fighter is incredibly good at closing the distance (Like prime Mike Tyson was, he was barely 5´10 fighting in the heavyweight division)
Ehhh, 5'10" being average among the U.S.' general population is bullshit. Guys lie about their height like women lie about their weight. Knock 2" off that IMO.
Also: +1 to what FriendlyFire said.

What's the demographic? Because supposedly more western fighters cut weight, while more eastern fighters walk around near their normal fight weight.
Or, maybe people who are taller(but not too much taller) tend to perform better athletically.
Who the **** knows, there's way too many variables(unless someone wants to limit them without cutting the sample size too small).
