    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Knee bar?

I was skimming through you tube last night and ran across this beauty:
YouTube- Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Moves : Knee Bar Jiu Jitsu Technique

Someone may have already done a thread on this guy before. If that is the case I AM SO SORRY!

Now that that is out of the way, in my ten years of martial arts, I have never heard knee bar used to describe that move. Maybe calf crunch maybe kneecap pinch but not knee bar. So seeing as I have not attended a pure BJJ school is this a knee bar?

Thank you in advance of the forums help.

That is a poorly executed calf crush, also called a calf compression. Years ago it was called the boston crab, although I believe that involved both calves being compressed, so that would be a half boston crab.

I know Westerners were using it in wrestling shows in the early part of the twentieth century. I don't know if the Japanese picked it up from wrestling, or if they were aware of it before then.

Dude, that is not the boston crab. Nor is it the half boston crab. The boston crab attacks the lower back, the half boston crab attacks the hip and lower back.
That's a shitty knee slicer/calf crusher that I think Eddie Bravo has listed as the Kamikaze Calf Crusher in one of his books and I learned as the Slot Machine because it's a gamble and you grab the dudes leg and pull like you are playing a slot machine.

Either way, TOTALLY not a kneebar.

And lest someone bag on me for contradicting one of the resident purple belts, the boston crab info comes from a childhood of pro wrestling knowledge.

    I stand corrected.

I was never a fan of pro wrestling anyway, but I know I saw that move in a match as a kid. I honestly though it was called the boston crab.

We call it the reverse calf cruncher. Not only that but that's a dumb way to get into that maneuver and they're missing a few leverage points.

    *blank look on face.....

This is why you should never ask a bjj guy about leg locks.
