Another example of WC anti-grapple techniques....
"Out of every hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back." -- Hericletus, circa 500 BC -

Steve was told by the promoter of the fight months in advance that he would be fighting a kickboxer, and the night of the fight the guy backed out. Steve was put on the spot to fight Igor, or don't fight at all. Lesson learned acknowledge and move forward. Prior to that fight Steve never trained against any type of grappler.

According to Clyde Gentry's No Holds Barred, you got it backwards. Zinoviev was supposed to fight Weit and Faulkner was supposed to fight Jones. Considering that Weit was the only fighter who left the show at the last minute, I don't think there were any other kickboxers that Faulkner could've fought.Steve was told by the promoter of the fight months in advance that he would be fighting a kickboxer, and the night of the fight the guy backed out. Do you know Faulkner personally and is what you're saying his side of the story? I have the DVD for the event, maybe there's something on the special features about this. -

I just watched the DVD. There seemed to be no indication that Faulkner was going to fight Weit, and there was no mention of any other kickboxers that left the show. Paul Jones was still present at the event, he just didn't fight. If he was originally slated to fight Zinoviev instead of Weit, then Faulkner would've just been left without a fight.
In short, Faulkner apparently was supposed to fight a grappler from the get-go. -
