Grand master sung baek for real? some questions?

So I was wondering if anyone had any info on Grand Master sung Baek? I recently searched him and one of his websites linked me to Wan Qi's AKA Bob kim's site. Just wondering what the concensus on him was?

I'd like to know what consensus we reached on this guy as well. As far as I remember his kendo is legit, he sells bullshit herbal remedies, publishes the odd paper in un-recognised journals and whenever he gets called on making unjustified claims, he just dismisses it as Bob getting carried away with his marketing.

I'm not sure what the story with the doyi thing was though.

If it's legit, it's not affiliated with AUSKF kendo. His club is Lynwood Kendo Club, not listed with AUSKF or the regional federations PNKF or CCKF.

Ok thanks for the info. I was totally going off memory.

I remember that Bob Kim had a video of the Lynwood club training, and it looked nothing like anything I'd seen in my time in kendo (about one college year). It had a bunch of beginners wailing on each other, not going for any of the standard targets/cuts. I think it's gone now though.

EDIT: The USKSF site says he's an advisor to the American Kendo Federation. Is that a real organisation?

I have no idea. It may be a real organization but in the kendo world it would be unrecognized. Unlike other martial arts, there is typically only one national federation per country. In the US, there is the All-US Kendo Federation, AUSKF. For historical reasons Hawaii is separate. There are no other organizations recognized by FIK. In the US to be FIK affiliated, you have to be part of the regional federation (PNKF in this case), which in turn gets you the national association, which buys you the international association. My sources tell me these guys are not part of that chain. So they would not be able to compete with the other clubs, nor would any rank granted be recognized.

Some of what is shown is fairly conventional kendo, although not particularly good kendo. Other stuff is flashy BS added on top.
