Ok. I'm not a member of NAAFA, but having learned information about them, I think there's a bit of confusion going on.
-First and foremost: The majority are not advocating unhealthiness. Most of the members advocate what's called "Health at Every Size." What that means is that they believe if they make positive lifestyle changes (I.e. healthy eating, exercise, rest, low stress, and so on), they will reach the size that they should be along with health benefits. (And that doesn't mean they are/believe they are already where they should be).
There are members that don't believe in that, but it's more of an "Accept all" situation than catering to the goals of the latter. Yes there are talks of whether or not there's a need to "Draw a line."
-It has many goals, and civil rights is a component. In some places it's illegal to fire/not hire someone for being too fat (Or too thin) for example, and they take cases like that. There's a support element, and often some Health at Every Size elements thrown in.
-I'm not going to find studies to counter yours, but to this day I haven't found anything that says shaming t3h fatties helps. If anything it's been said to make things worse.

Frankly I just support everyone, and think that's the better route. Yes we need better foods, less toxins in the air, and less processing in everything (Especially in the US), but those things affect everyone thin or fat.
There are a lot of things that drain our system too. Whether it's smokers, people that do sports (Lots of injuries and deaths compile to burden us in the bank), people that are unhealthy at any size, etc. You can't blame one group for everything. I've practiced martial arts with fat peers, and they've never had trouble from what I've seen. Plus I feel it's my duty to support them
being active especially if they're trying to lose weight in the process.
But let me get off my high horse. I'm not going to sway your opinion, but I did want to bring some things to the table. I don't like thinking of this in terms of "Good" versus "Bad," and I'm not saying you have to accept the bad, but know that there are "Good" people that aren't trying to burden you or anyone else.
(And note: I'm 5'10, and a lightweight. In the military too. Not that it matters lol)
