    Crossfit?

    Just wondering if any of you guys have tried it? Good? bad? waste of time? I heard the usmc and the army adopted it after I got out. So long to the pure pullup push up workout.

    I also meant to add the TRX Exercise System.

    I woul have done it longer but having to find substitutes for 70% of the exercises ended up being too much of a pita for me.

    It help me lose about 10lbs, but I could also credit that to cleaning up my diet and not being as lazy. I'd imagine that you'd get a lot more out of it when doing it with a dedicated group as opposed to by yourself.

    Crossfit is great. However it is something that should be done with a group and a certified instructor. Way too often I encounter pple trying to do crossfit on their own and they are doing the exercises wrong. At least take a glass on on to do proper lifts and practice them w/o weight til you get the mechanics right.

    I have a TRX right here. I brought one with me because I knew I was going to end up at a small FOB. It a nice piece of equipment to have but if you have a decent gym then you don't need it.

    I've been doing it for two months and have increased strength speed and endurance. My mile times have improved every week, and last night I did another personal best on a routine. Will I reach a plateau? Probably, but then I'm doing the scaled workouts, so when it gets easier, I'll push myself harder.

    I do a few of the workouts at home, and haven't injured myself at all - in fact, some of the old injuries (namely a herniated muscle on my pubic bone) have stopped hurting. I'm not sure why, but I think it's because Crossfit doesn't prioritize all those leg lifts and isolated ab work that other workouts do.

    That said, I agree 100% about getting some instruction. All the Olympic lifts are new to me, and I approach them with extreme caution. If I'm uncertain, I just do them with the bar and no weight. I'm understrength right now and would like to start lifting something heavier, but I'm not going to try it until I get some proper training.

    Best thing of all - I haven't spent a penny on it.

    Just started this myself. I have been doing straight strength training for the last 9 months (Stronglifts) and I have found that that has been helpful. Having read Crossfit it seems that it is suggested you get a basis in strength training first. This has definitely helped in getting the lifts right, I've already been doing the Olympic lifts form the last 4 months.
