Hanging a Heavy Bag
I was wondering if anyone here can recommend a heavy bag frame that doesn't require drilling or mounting into the wall/floor that can support a 140lb 6ft banana bag. Ever since I finished the basement, I miss having my bag up and have only found flimsy solutions for under 100lb bags with not enough clearance for kicking. Space is not really a problem so much as not being able to drill into the floor.
Why not get a Body Opponent Bag or Wavemaster, or some other kind of free standing bag?
because hes already has the heavy ass expensive bag he can't put anywhere a frame might be cheaper.
Edit: I've heard of people hanging their bag's outside on a tree branch, the bag tends to take a beating from the weather so that might not be what your looking for but its nice to train outside in the spring and summer even winter as long as your not a little girl about being cold.
You can drill into the floor.
go to the hardware store and buy a heavy duty eyebolt and a threaded floor anchor.
Then go to a rental center and get a hammer drill with the appropriate bit.
Then you will probably need to glue it into the floor with epoxy and presto! you have a floor anchor with a removable eyebolt.
Short of that solution you would have to have a metal fabricator custom build a metal stand for you.
If you choose this route you will need to give the clearance from floor to ceiling and your door width as it may have to be assembled (at least partially) onsite.
I bought a wavemaster freestanding water filled bag that I broke after a few weeks, plus they are very easily knocked over.
Waste of money.
Here is something, go to your local automotive garage supply store.
The have these portable cranes with telescoping arms that some body shops uses when they remove engines.
I don't know what kind of clearance you have, but the height of the arm is adjustable by the use of a jack and the crane has wheels and is foldable.
That may be your best bet, they are usually under 300 dollars.
I hang mine with climbing thread, makes less noise that way.
I hung my on a tree. Bad idea. Birds took dumps all over it, and the weather evantually ruined the zipper, and I cant zip up the bag, so all the stuffing inside it flys out when i Punch or kick it.
ronin. the car engine crane idea is something that i'll look into. i know a few mechanics that might be able to hook me up. worse comes to worse, I'll try to find a custom metal shop to build something for me.
those freestanding bags are jokes man. they just don't feel right and aren't heavy enough.
i left a bag outdoors once...it started moulding......never again.
as for training outdoors, if anyone can train outdoors in this canadian weather, they must have some mad chi. it's freakin cold out here.
There is a spring you can get from asian world of martial arts that allows you to hang up to a 300lbs bag, that will limit any noise also.
