Gatti's Wife Sues Brazilian Police
No surprises here..
SAO PAULO -- The widow of boxer Arturo Gatti is suing the state of Pernambuco for locking her up as a prime suspect in her husband's death one month ago, her attorney said on Thursday.
Amanda Rodrigues, 23, "has decided to sue Pernambuco for her 18-day imprisonment and for wrongfully accusing her of murder," Celio Avelino said by telephone.
Avelino said he and his client will file the "necessary papers" in about 20 days. He declined to provide further details.
The Montreal boxer and two-time world champion died July 11 while he and his family vacationed at the Brazilian resort town of Porto de Galinhas.
A day after the 37-year-old Gatti was found dead, police said Rodrigues had strangled him with her purse strap as he drunkenly slept.
But on July 30, Brazilian police ruled that Gatti had committed suicide and Rodrigues was released from jail.
