Sorry for repost, but I want everyone to know who I was responding to. I had to reply to crazyTKDartist post. I was one the original students with K.S. Lee and Master Chung was suppose to have been my first instructor, although, every time I came to mid day class he would tell Ms. Michelle to come out and teach me. Ms. Michelle was the reason the school got it's positive rep in Durham. Master Chung left the school high and dry because he wanted more money for teaching, although, Ms. Michelle was doing all the teaching. Since I went on to be one of Master Lee's main instructors, I think I can speak to this fact. I was told by my Grandmaster to lighten up in certain school's of his because it was to intense, but just as long as I keep it lively and fun, that was okay. He did allow me to teach the real deal in his Gardner school. The point he later shared was about the business aspect. You don't structure the school for the adults to like, you structure the school to appeal to the kids and the adults will come. The koreans have made Tae Kwon Do a business, nothing wrong with that, except, it lacks in the real teaching of learning to fight. That's what Ms. Michelle taught you, she taught how to truly use what you have learned. If you are with Lee Brothers, they will wait until you reach blackbelt level to teach you how to really fight, but by that time, it is much too late. They will have drained thousands of dollars from you over the years just for you to have your child in a true external tournament one day and you wonder why he or she is getting beat so bad.
This post is not to discourage you, it is to share a different view. Also, if you ever try to open a school aside from being under them, they will call all the korean schools, and blackball you so no one will come to your tournaments. Everything I have mentioned in this post comes from fracts not opinions. I have seen it, hear it, and know that it is true.
Last little note; You ever ask yourself why Master Chung always wear his shoes when he is on the floor. It certainly is not suppose to be allowed, and you will never see him allow the students to do the same. I can tell you if you want to know, but you may not like it.
