Okay then, I would say you are better off pulling the kick back as soon as possible instead of letting it hang out there. It would be better conditioning.
No. This is counterproductive and possible very, very bad for you, depending on the posture. You can develop lordosis from the pressure this puts on your vertebrae.

been doing them for twenty some years, no back problems here.
I agree that this is an excellent drill when kicking in the AIR only. It helps with leg strength and even flexibility by strengthening the muscles of the upper leg/hip. I've only jeld the position for 2 seconds after the kick and only do it for front, side or spinning back kicks.
When kicking an actual target your foot should return to the ground and in good base as fast as possible. Round kicks should be retracted fast or followed through even in the air.
it actually helps with developing the hip flexors and other muscles in that area for stronger kicks. its just not too smart to do during fighting or sparring, this isn't bloodsport
1. This is a different type of flexibility than what you need for kicking. This actually involves like an entirely different muscular function than that involved in kicking. Unless you're doing this for something other than flexibility or speed, don't bother.
2. It depends on the kick position, as I said. Side kicks, not a bad idea. Forward, like snaps etc. Bad idea.
