This should all make for great write up.
Looks like Anthony has made a half arsed attempt to justify the pack of lies in Taming the Tiger on his webpage:
Claims that the man who taught him kung fu wasn't his real grand Father. No mention or apology for making this all up.
Also looks like Avanti Ministries have shut up shop
"Million-selling reformed killer Tony Anthony exposed as serial fantasist"
Not happy about this line: 'But now, following a sustained internet campaign by a group of Christians who doubted Anthony's claims almost from the start, it appears that little of the book is true.'
I contacted countless Christian organisations over the years about Anthony. Including the body that gave his book the 'Christian book of the year' award. The responses were always the same: Indifference, or sometimes even mild hostility that I was raising he issue.
But I suppose it's all water under the bridge now. Despite the sloppy journalism, glad that the story is in the Guardian.
I am not a kung Fu expert. I am a christian and have personally and heavily been involved in exposing TA for the last 2 years. The details of who I am are not important, suffice to say it has been a long and painful road.
When I had my initial doubts I found Bullshido and got much valuable information from the work many of you had done.
I especially recall the inputs from Stephen Prunetti. So I personally give you all a BIG THANK YOU.
You were all very much one of the launching pads we had available, but to get where we got took the sort of hard graft dedication I imagine you put into your MA skills.
One of the biggest problems was getting anyone in authority to listen to us, especially Authentic, but I saw you had much the same problem.
We had the advantage of being in the Christian communiity, but it was still difficult. I serve a God who is the creator of all and cannot fail, so He used us to do waht you could not. He not only loves truth He is truth and he doesn't need lies to be used to spread his gospel. God God was enver in what Tony Anthony has being doing
God bless you all.
I've just posted on the comments section of the on-line article.
It is worth pointing out that conerns about Tony Anthony were not raised by concerned Christians but rather by a Martial Arts Website Bullshido.com that tries to expose fraud in the martial arts world.
The investigation over Anthony started in 2007.
Bullshido tried to raise concerns with the Evangelical Christian world but "The responses were always the same: Indifference, or sometimes even mild hostility that I was raising he issue."
For those of you outside the UK - The Observer is a mainstream Sunday paper in the UK.
Stephen - well done - looks like the investigation has come to fruition.
Not sure if this news item has been posted yet, seems to be from a local paper in Anthony's vicinity.
Interesting mention of Anthony trying to make a film of the book. It is mentioned in the article (not sure how true it is):
"Mr Anthony maintains the substance of the book is true and is working on a revised issue with a disclaimer for names and dates that were changed to protect people’s identities. He added the film project would continue."
We may not have seen the last on Tony Anthony...
TA is still wandering around the globe preaching his version of the gospel mixed with his fabricated persona.
He is now working with the newly founded Escape Prison Ministry and possibly Lumina Ministries run by his former fellow Avanti comrades John Lawson (ex Scottish Mafia according to his testimony) and George Osbourn.
He seams to have gone for a new look too since his exposure:
Tony appears to have started a campaign to resurrect his fraudulent career but the christian journalist Gavin Drake seams to be dealing with it quite well.
The author behind the FramingtheTiger blog is William Ting.
I have forwarded his name and the evidence to support this to the people he has defamed to enable them to pursue it.
