THAT makes sense.
THAT makes sense.
Basically, kickboxing is a sport- where karate etc, is more traditionally an art. Being good at a sport means you win. It's like having a degree in English doesn't make you a best selling author, selling a lot of books does.
THAT did not make any sense. I'll take Whorian's word and assume you are trying to say competition brings validation to a martial art (and its belt system if it has one).
I guess I look at kickboxing as pure competition- like running, or any other sport. You are either a champion runner, or you're not. I view color belts as more like an "understanding" of the art, i.e., you could coach someone, with an understanding of the sport, without being great at it. I would hate to see belts in MMA or kickboxing- your expertise should be in the doing. I trained for 2 years at fairtex and 2 at kings boxing gym, but I do not tell people that I am a boxer or a kickboxer- I don't go to matches, so how can I say that? Now, in TKD, I know all the forms of my particular school, the kicks, the basics, etc. I could teach someone TKD. Belts are such bullshit anyway- either you're good or your mediocre or you suck. If you haven't trained in 6 years, are you really a black belt? If you can't perform the techniques, and have forgotten all your forms, should you tell all and sundry that you're a black belt? You should say- "I WAS a black belt". As a matter of fact, when it comes down to MMA and Kickboxing, the only way you should be able to say you a qualified to coach, is to show the general public who you have coached and what they have won, and are winning. After all, their are no belts in boxing, or football, etc. By the way El Macho, I say this with all respect, it's just that I have see so many people in the point karate community, who tie up all their self worth in what degree black belt they earn, while, carreer wise, they are a cable installer, or as one guy I met who ran a postage machine, told me that he was proudly wearing a Kubudo Ryu t-shirt,. Of course, I really would have preferred to stick out BJJ and get my purple....
The funniest thing about this thread is you kept typing.Quote:

Oh btw good people lose. So, that makes them mediocre?
new2bjj.....you need to sit back and think about what you feel a little bit more, so you may state your views a bit more eloquently ;)
I was actually rushing to put in that post. Oh well, it's late, I have the flu, so....how about that Thompson kid...
championships are bullshit....what make so champion??some drugs and a point gaining sience....where is the true meaning of budo ONE SHOT ONE KILL????????i have a great xp in judo and kyokushin championships and i saw perfect ignorance of the values of martial arts.........
Strange. Although each individual word makes sense (I can even guess the ones that are mis-spelled) I can't seem to work out what your saying.Quote:
