i have been resting for a week or so already today i just started back sparring with my friend and he said i have gotten stronger, what i dont get is he sparred with me till last week and back then i lifted weights like everyday and he doesnt say i get stronger but today he said that??? i just dont get it

my friend that have been learning cma for a while told me lifting weights actually slow you down and causing your punches kicks slower, i just got a weight lifting program so should i stick with weight lifting or just hit bags, pads, mitts??? i need advice immediately because my schedule starts back in friday
