The atmosphere in the class is friendly and inviting first comers are welcome. The class is run on as a pay as you go basis of £4 per 2hr lesson however the first month is free and in the past i have trained there for free while unemployed in the past .
the instructer Mr Mcelhone is friendly and knowledgable with a patient teaching technique.
the emphasis of the class is on sparring semi contact for safety due to the mixed age and gender of the class and self defence however students over 16 years of age are alowed to agree amongst themselves on full contact. the school does not have an individual team however there is both england and scotland squads within the ITF that students can attend training to . on the downside although the training area is large an well equiped there are other sporting activities coinciding within the large hall most noteabley a chinese kickboxing class witch leads to the inevitable sly glances back and forth witch is a distraction and due to the hall supply cuboard bieng within the training area other users of the hall feel free to walk thorough without permission. on a positive note the teacher encourages cross training in other arts later on as tkd knowledge proggresses and encourages practical use of the art instead of attempting to use the acrobatic spinning kicks in real situations that the style is known for. The center is brand new and has a gym upstairs and showers and lockers . the striking instruction is good due to the small size of the class no more than 15 regular users and the instructor bringing in 2 bb as assistants . the atmosphere is exelent due to a mild competetivness with the kickboxing class to work harder and not look sloppy.
