I recently bought a very good DVD, "Mastering the Whip" by Steve Woodward. I got his first DVD, apparently there was a second, but I haven't kept up with it. He does a lot of fun stuff with the long handle, baston-type stuff (he's done some FMAs, to my understanding), he chokes up on it and uses it at shorter ranges, etc.
I was given a whip by a friend, but from what I hear, this site puts out good stuff.
For most any students purposes, the kangaroo hide tools are just too overpriced. Check out the stock whips on this page, or just stock whips in general if you want to do some of the baston stuff with the handle:
The longer handle also helps with power and control.
