Question For Wrestlers
I have a question for the wrestlers who frequent this forum.
Do you guys consider a chin dig to be a 'dirty' move?
I mean, it is not illegal, but do you think it is a dirty tactic on the mat? I am just wondering what your opinions are because I am coaching this year and wondering whether to encourage the team members to do this or not. I know that I used it once in a while, but do you think it is good form to pass this on to young wrestlers? If they stick with the sport, they will learn it somewhere down the line anyways.
I am interested in informed opinions only, thanks.
I'm not sure what you mean by chin dig, but generally speaking I never considered anything that wasn't illegal to be "dirty tactics".
There is only legal/illegal and effective/ineffective. Everything else is irrelevant IMO.
I agree with lawdog: if it isn't illeagal, use it. If you don't take advantage of every technique, the other guys will. Legal and effective are the only criteria for whether or not to use a technique.
Chin in the eye!
nah, I wouldn't feel bad about it.
i don't use it tho
I liked how my coach would show us all the legal and illegal moves and tell us "Don't do this" as he went into great detail of illegal and effective moves to use =P
On topic: Teach 'em. If nothing else, they know what to look out for on the other team.
That's like asking if crossfacing is dirty...
Coach *insert name : Says when cross facing, you should't punch your oppionent
as *insert guys full name: says when cross facing, go ahead and punch em.
Even if you don't want to encourage the chin dig you should at least teach/tell them about it. If anything it'll increase their knowledge about wrestling tactics, and they'll know what to look out for.
Teach it, it will probably happen to them.
You don't have to encourage them to do it, at least not offensively, but they should know about it.
