I am certified full under Vu - and I also left PFS before this bozo showed up so how the **** he is now a top player is something of a mystery
This photo on your Facebook page states that you are the only person certified in Jeet Kune Do & Law Enforcement in Maryland, Virginia, and DC. This brings up the following questions.
1) If you are a Full Instructor, how many years have you been training under Paul Vunak in Progressive Fighting Systems?
2) Can you also post pictures of your Apprentice Instructor certificate & Phase One instructor certificate, showing the dates on which you were awarded these ranks?
3) If you are the only person certified under Paul Vunak in Virginia, why is Dan Mikeska still listed on Paul Vunak's Fighting.net web page as a Senior instructor? Given his rank and the date he was awarded it, means he is your sihing, your senior brother. Wouldn't that mean you are being extremely disrespectful to Sifu Mikeska by saying you are the only in the DMV to be certified to teach these things, when Vunak's own web page says you are not?
4) If you are a Maryland PFS instructor and have been training for the many years it general takes to become a full instructor in Jeet Kune Do, why were you not at Sifu Harinder Singh's seminar in Severn, Maryland in 2011? If you're located on Old Waugh Chapel Road, it's was just up Rt. 170 from you, not even a ten minute ride.
According to Fighting.net, John Krogmann is a Full Instructor located in Catawba, Virginia, thus further invalidating Mr. Nguyen's claims of being the only one licensed by Paul Vunak in the DMV.
It is also worth noting that both Mr. Krogmann and Mr. Mikeska are active in Vunak's current association. There are others located in the DMV who have been licensed under Vunak as Jeet Kune Do Instructors, Law Enforcement Instructors, Edged Weapons Instructors, etc, who are no longer associated with Vunak, yet still retain certification.
Ving Tsun of Maryland's Facebook page has removed Sifu Hai's claims of being the only person in the DMV licensed by Paul Vunak to teach Jeet Kune Do & Law Enforcement.
Posts by former PFS member Jay Cooper calling out Sifu Hai as a liar have also been removed.
However, the pictures of the rank certificates are still posted, which once again begs the question, "How did someone who other PFS members & former PFS members have never heard of achieve Full Instructor rank?"
The Law Enforcement certification is not necessarily a big deal. It involves training in a focused curriculum derived from Vunak's seminal Rapid Assault Tactics program, the program he originally created in the 80s for SEAL Team Six. This derivation breaks down techniques & tactics according to the use of force paradigm used by law enforcement. The program itself is generally taught to law enforcement agencies in two days, over the course of five hours a day. It is fairly easy to learn for anyone with martial arts experience.
Full Instructor is the third level of certification in Progressive Fighting Systems' branch of Jeet Kune Do. The first level, Apprentice, is granted to those with an applied understanding of the Rapid Assault Tactics program, which is Vunak's stripped down JKD/Kali-based system, as well as basic Kali. This level should be easily reached for anyone with previous experience in the fighting arts, especially alive arts. The Kali focuses on Defanging the Snake principles.
The second level is Phase One Instructor. At this level, the instructor should have a seamless understanding of Rapid Assault Tactics, as well as a functional knowledge of Jun Fan Gung Fu, especially basic trapping, and be able to apply this trapping in alive kickboxing-style sparring. The instructor should be able to demonstrate an understanding of clinch range, using Muay Thai & grappling. The instructor should have a decent understanding of basic ground grappling (positions, transition, and submissions), and a knowledge of how to apply Kino Mutai (Filipino dirty fighting) in grappling. The instructor should have a good understand of Kali, especially the techniques single knife & stick, and be able to apply the skills, footwork, and techniques of Numerada & Sumbrada in those drills. The instructor should also be able to demonstrate a good understanding of knife tapping, avoidance, and disarms, and demonstrate these through what is commonly called "the U Drill". This is certainly a great deal of material, and covers a breadth of martial arts experience. It is not something that one can just walk in and achieve in a few months, unless one already has years of experience in say, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jujutsu, and Kali.
However, to reach Full Instructor in Jeet Kune Do is a time consuming process. For a Progressive Fighting Systems instructor, this entails a mastery of all facets of combat, from Kali's stick & knife, to grappling arts. Most full instructors have extensive training in Brazilian Jujutsu, SAMBO, or Combat Submissions Wrestling. Their understanding of Kali should include double weapons, and espada y daga. In addition, at this point, a Full Instructor should have a thorough understanding of Jun Fan, trapping, chisao, and be able to apply trapping and all other skills in an alive kickboxing environment. So, while apprentice and Phase One may be relatively easy for an outside martial artist with a background in the right training to achieve, Full Instructor is a different story.
For a Wing Chun instructor, that path would necessitate a great deal of training in Kali and grappling. For the majority of Wing Chun instructors who have no experience in using their art on the leitai or in sanda, this would also require training in some form of boxing or kickboxing.
So, again, how many years of training in Jeet Kune Do does Sifu Hai Nguyen possess? What is his grappling experience, and does it come through BJJ, SAMBO, CSW, or some other alive grappling art? Does he have training in another Kali system that would give him skills equivalent to those developed through PFS Kali?
Cull of the non-MABS standard posts here:
It might be worth pointing out that searches for the phone number listed in the OP turn up results for several "wealth management" and investment organizations and events, many containing the name Hai Nguyen. This might help to narrow down the identity of the OP, if this is to become an actual investigation.
Just an update, Sifu Hai Nguyen has evidently folded up shop or gone underground. Maryland Ving Chun's Facebook page has disappeared, along with his claims.
He is no longer listed on Paul Vunak's "Fighting.net" as an instructor.
As before, becoming a Full Instructor in PFS is quite a commitment. You have to wonder what would make someone suddenly drop that commitment so soon after advertising it.
Crap...my cousin is involved with this gentleman. Apparently he's claiming Kru status in muay Thai. Here's his group page https://www.facebook.com/globalmuaythai
So, he's moved on to Muay Thai?
Where is your cousin located?
