Judo in San Francisco?
Just moved to SF. Looking for a good Judo club. Preliminary searches are showing just one: San Francisco Judo Institute. But it's out in the middle of nowhere on the opposite side of the city I'll be living and working. So may be difficult to attend classes. There's also another Judo club closer, but it looks like it's women only.
Tried searching the local YMCAs. But didn't find anything. Colleges/University clubs are usually students only as well.
Would be my recommendation.
You can't beat Cahils no mater how far you drive. We used to drive from sanJose to Cahils to train backin the day. I remember they used to have a fridge in the back with beer for $1 donation first time I had a beer on the tatami after practice, witch is now a religous practice in our dojo.

Cahills looks super expensive. $50 for one class each week? And it's too far away. I won't be driving. I'll be taking a bus or Muni or Bart from where I work, which is around Montgomery Station. Are there no other Judo clubs in the area? I would have thought a city with so much Japanese influence would have more than two...
I saw Paiva at the Hilo's Big Island Hawaiian Music Fest last year. She (and Makana at Laupahoehoe Music Fest) and Pahoa Grad Sean Robbins are the hottest young Hawaiian musicians. Though Sean is ha'ole - he's a student of Cyril Pahinui. Pahinui said people ask him, why you teaching that ha'ole and he said that Sean works hard and does what he's asked and that he'd be happy to teach Hawaiian kids, just find him one that will take orders.
Makana At Laupahoehoe he did the Occupy song that he played for Obama and the fat cats at the APEC dinner!
spoken word anti racist from Australia, Luka Lesson - Please Resist Me - I got turned on to Luka 'cause Medicine For The People are touring with Luka and included a video on their fb site.
Rosemary Lane - Espers,
which led me to Bert Jansch - Rosemary Lane
What? I think you have the wrong thread...
Anybody have experience with or know anything about the Mits Kimura Judo Club that holds classes inside the Ralph Gracie Jujutsu school? That location is right near where I work and would be an easy commute.
There is alot of very good judo in the bay area. Try this thread.
Thanks. I've already seen that thread. And it lists TWO (2) places. Both of which I already mentioned in this thread. So where are all the other places you're talking about when you say "there are a lot..."? Because SFJI is very far away me and Mits Kimura is close by, but it doesn't seem to be a Kodokan-type Judo. It's a hybrid with a bunch of guys in an MMA gym. I'm gonna go check it out. But it might not be what I'm looking for.
