I'm a noob, but to me that looks just like what we learn to do in Muay Thai if you're covering instead of parrying, you lift your arms high like you're grabbing your ear, and you lean into the strike (if I am remembering correctly).
Grain of salt though, my defense is shitty.
There are similar blocks in FMA. The oportunity is there that the oponent spikes thier own fist on your elbow, or their bicep gets spiked if they throw a wide hook. Really your primary goal is to block the strike but it's a lucky bonus at times.
