Judo beats BJJ
So my work schedule has changed for the next 11 weeks and I only have to go in tuesdays and thursdays, so my excuses for not training no longer wash.
So I'm thinking about going back to BJJ because they have classes on the days I am not working, practically seven days a week. Their marketing is solid, of course, because they won't give me a quote on a price (I'm telling them I just want a flat fee for six months) and talk me into coming back down and doing a class, which of course, gets me pumped.
So when I go in to negotiate, they say take it or leave it, 12 months or nothing. With a ten % discount it's $1600.
The Judo is $65 a month, but of course T and Th and F and M. I hate training friday nights. Monday is a kids class with one or two adults. I hate kids. Okay I don't hate them, they just don't belong in the room when I am trying to train. They are talking about starting a MW classes but not yet.
Still, Judo wins.
I am trying to rationalize the decision in my head, but knowing nothing about running a dojo (other than it's not a lucrative business for most) I don't know. They take 10% off, what is left of their profit margin? Are they walking away from good money? I mean, WTF? Depending on what happens chances are good I will train maybe once a week, which means it's like a typical gym membership. You pay, the make money, and no wear and tear on the facility.
Fuckem. They probably have a sufficient supply of wannabees that they can jack their rates and still fill their mats. Not your problem.
I'm in a similar situation as OP. My judo school costs 65 a month whereas the bjj is 150 a month..
Judo is nights T TH and sat morning
whereas the bjj is weekdays in the morning and nights, and sat afternoon.
bjj seems a bit to pricey for just training though, and there does seem to be a lot of "wannabes" in the bjj crowd as well willing to dish out the money. I think those same people don't like falling thats why judo schools dont charge 150 a month to get thrown around.
so judo for the win here as well.
I can actually join 24 hour fitness and do judo for less...
I pay $100 a month for BJJ for Me and my Daughter
This includes Crossfit and they have 2 soon to be 3 locations.
Morning, Night, and evening classes.
Mate my Judo costs 35 pounds a month.
BJJ costs 350 holy **** pounds a month.
The choice was easy for me.
BJJ is usually a business whereas judo is typically a club with volunteer instructors. So a different culture in judo but also usually less service (fewer classes, always nights and weekends etc). Thats the reason for the price difference.
