Final Round Boxing - Ottawa
Review Final Round
I trained at Final Round Boxing in Ottawa for three all-too-short months. Final Round is moving from its location in South Keys to its current address at 15 LeBreton (at Somerset). I recognize that my limited boxing experience and lack of familiarity with the new facility and offerings could be a potential shortcoming for this review.
I recommend Final Round Boxing very highly for anyone who is interested in physical conditioning and striking training. I believe the quality of instruction, facilities and cost makes this establishment easily one of the better places to train in Ottawa.
For those who are so inclined, one may enjoy medium to hard sparring in a boxing ring under supervision of a boxing coach. You can easily arrange for sparring outside of the regularly-scheduled conditioning and boxing technique classes, which may have light contact in some drills. There is also an Intro to Sparring class offered which is not included in the regular club membership fees.
There is a boxing ring, about a dozen heavy bags, as well as a speed bag and uppercut bag and skipping ropes, pads, etc. The gym is equipped with a variety of weights and a bench. There are change rooms with lockers and shower facilities. Equipment such as bag gloves and hand wraps are available as loaners and a full range of equipment can be purchased or ordered.
Gym Size 8-9
The South Keys location was a 5,000 square foot facility and the new location has not yet opened at the time of writing. On occasion, classes could get a little tight for skipping space.
Again, my time at FRB was very short, so there was a very limited opportunity to get to know people. The instructors were infallibly personable, friendly, helpful and professional. Students were friendly enough and generally helpful and willing to work with you at training.
Striking Instruction 8-9
Most instructors have competed at the amateur or professional level.
There are several members who compete at the amateur and at least one who fights professionally.
