This thread/article is about congratulating Aesopian on achieving the rank of black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
I would hope that all of you would have the decorum to keep that in mind when posting in this thread. Please respect Matt's accomplishment.
If you have an objection or statement regarding his rank, any one of you is free to start a new thread about it.
Congratulations! So I need to repeat the question: how long did it take?
Congratulations, Matt. Seriously, very well done!
I, for one, would like to thank Matt for helping me to see the light 6 years ago and getting me to swallow my MA pride from years of jushitsu to start training in BJJ with a great team and a phenomenal coach.

Love him or hate him....who cares, but don't disrespect the innumerable hours of blood, sweat and tears it takes to get a BJJ Black Belt. I don't care who you are, pro-fighter, BJJ world champion, or dedicated hobbiest, you have to prove your mettle and unswerving dedication day after day, week after week, year after year, on the mats in order to get a BJJ Black Belt.
Congrats Matt...well deserved.
So again: how long did it take? From what I read around the forums here, Aeso is very talented :)
Alice doesn't live here anymore.

I know he was posting here in 2006, although his current profile page lists his join date as 2011. That's probably because it got messed up during the last major site upgrade. Other than that, I recall that he joined the site around the same time as Shuma-Gorath, Boyd and Hedgehogey.
Yeah, I know that he doesn't post here anymore. Only SifuAbel did not see that when he called for a Gong Sau.
Still, there must be people on this site who know how long it took him to become Black Belt?
