Anonymous vs. Zuffa: #OpUFC
Online activist/hacker constituency Anonymous is going all-in on targeting the UFC and its parent company, Zuffa, over their support for the Stop Online Piracy Act.
The act, which recently inspired hundreds of websites, including Bullshido, Reddit, Wikipedia, and others, to "go dark" on January 18th, goes well beyond stopping piracy and according to several experts, enables massive censorship and "chilling effects" on public discourse.
A spokesman for Anonymous told Bullshido, "the UFC owes almost all of its success to the Internet. It was the Internet that allowed fans of the sport to follow it after MMA was banned from pay per view, and it was those fans on websites like Bullshido, the UG, Sherdog, and others, who supported the sport in its infancy and helped it get mainstream credibility. By supporting SOPA, Dana White is basically telling those UFC fans, 'thanks for helping us hit the big time, now **** off'."
White, who is active on Twitter, has been going tit-for-tat with Anon-related accounts for several days now. How this will all play out remains to be seen, but the "group" has already taken down the UFC's website once over this, and has upped the ante by releasing White's social security number and court records; "doxxing" as they describe it.
