Dojo doctor is very confident that I have a torn ACL. Son of a bitch. She says if I want to continue with karate, I'll probably need surgery. Getting an MRI to be certain of course, but she said "yeah your knee isn't supposed to move like that, just so you know."
She says with surgery my chances of going on to full contact fighting are very good, however.
Still man, ****. ACL. D:
Congratulations, you're fucked for at least six months. But then you'll be fine. It's such a common injury doctors are good at fixing it. Do the PT afterwards. It will suck, but you have to do it.
Tough break, though at least you dont have the uncertainty to deal with, just the reality
A great oppertunity to work on your upper body strength:)
Yar, I have to start lifting for sure! This sucks but it is what it is.
So any news on your acl? I got my results yesterday.... All bad juju..
Surface fractures all over my knee. Torn meniscus and torn acl. They won't do surgery till my bones heal.. I'm out for a bit
I go to the doctor tomorrow with my slides, but I looked up MRI slides of healthy ACLs and torn ACLs. A healthy ACL will be a solid black line:
A torn ACL will either look like this:
Or like this:
There isn't a black line present at all on all of my slides that show my ACL. I'm pretty sure that fucker's torn. :( I'll know for sure when I see the doctor. I haven't had years of training on how to read MRI slides, but my guesses have always been right before.
:Baww:I knealt on a sewing needle when I was young and the eye snaped off deep in my knee.
Looking at these images makes me think of that trauma and gives me the hebegebies
CT scan on my bones is the next step then talk of surgery. I feel like I should be in more pain than I am...
My mom taught me how to read MRIs so I could I.d. All the problems.. My acl doesnt loo right the way it's sitting. Bt it is a solid band...
There are many threads on the subject of ACL tears, but this one has some stuff with regard to getting back in the game:
I can personally say recovering from a full MCL tear sucks much worse, so count your blessings with the ACL.
Thank you very much for that Tom, I'll be sure to pour over it. Much appreciated! And I'm sorry to hear about your injury. Hope you're doing well now.
*edit* I have finished reading and am officially fucking terrified.
